Thanks for the photos from the trip Tag Heuer archive. I have in my collection my father's c. 1973 Heuer Autavia 1163V. That watch involved a cross promotion between Heuer and Viceroy cigarettes, with the watch normally priced at $200 offered at $88 with a coupon and a Viceroy cigarette carton end flap. May we one day see a return to pedestrian pricing for great watches, with or without proof of purchase of cigarettes.
Apologies in advance as I sheepishly direct anyone reading this comment away from your newsletter and instead to a Hodinkee article providing the backstory and history of that watch.
awesome family watch, the viceroy story is great. funny enough i was at an antique shop just the other day, took a photo of an old viceroy ad, was one of my favorite there:
Thanks for another enjoyable story on your visit to Tag Heuer. It is amazing to learn about all of these archived watches that companies have. I wonder what if any plans they have for them. You can only display so many.
Just can echo Mark‘s comment - great coverage. I followed your preference for Heuer divers for quite some time (not a fan of full lume dials tough) and may have reached a point at which I should take a closer look at the EBay listings myself …
Yes - I really love the watch - but I think the auction pricing is pretty insane. The new Berneron is really much better imo. I wonder if the mirage will have staying power long term.
You know AP gets a lot of flak for all the usual things luxury watch brands get flak for but honestly, AP Chronicles is an amazing resource. Like a lot of us I have issues with AP but every brand should look to AP Chronicles if they want to see how to do their history right
Thanks for the tip on the Sub book, Tony! I placed my order. Hopefully you get a referral commission on my purchase.
this comment is all the commission i need!
I also picked one up for 70% off, thank you Tony!
Me too!!!

i'll include a couple in the watchlist coming this weekend!
The Bernerons already at $170k if you take into account the hammer fees and exchange rate.
ended up selling for CHF241,300 (i think that's all-in)
I think the QA was excellent and I love the case shape. Really nice work. But also quite expensive.

Boom
Mirage sold for $302k, wow! Berneron's on a roll
I read that Chicago PD recovered 4 of the 5 Rolexes that were stolen. Wonder when #5 will surface.
Any hints about the rapidly-growing brand opening up a show room in the West Loop? I will put $20 on Bremont.
haha not quite...but a similar brand in a manner of speaking
