He's Been to the Titanic 5 Times—Here's What He Wore
Plus: a Rolex sales associate talks, Lorier's new era, and the best watch-brand creator partnership yet.
Good morning. I’m on an Amtrak train heading out of New York. I left from Moynihan Train Hall, which opened in 2021. A lovely Art Deco-inspired clock hangs from its glass roof, hit by plenty of natural light. It looks kind of like if you chopped up a skyscraper from that era and slapped a clock face on each side. The typeface is inspired by 1930s railroad signage—a lesser newsletter might call it all very Bauhaus, but I’ll just say my eyes, which fail me more every day, could read it from across the hall. Zach Kazan wrote more about it in 2021—
In today’s newsletter: The latest episode of the Unpolished Podcast with David Concannon; an interview with a Rolex sales associate on what it’s really like to sell Rolex; Lorier watches are back and I talked to Worn & Wound about its acquisition; Tudor just did the best creator partnership I’ve ever seen; and Mark Cho wants to know your ideal watch size.

David Concannon is today’s guest on the Unpolished Podcast. Find it below, or wherever you listen to podcasts. It’ll also be on YouTube shortly (Amtrak WiFi not ideal for uploading a 56-minute episode).
David is an explorer, attorney, writer, and watch collector. He’s been on five dives to the Titanic, and led the expedition that recovered the Apollo engines that launched men to the Moon. He’s a member of The Explorers Club, the society that counts famous astronauts and mountaineers among its members.
As part of his membership, he works with Rolex on the Explorers Club Grant, which puts Rolex watches into the field. We talk about that program, what it’s like working closely with Rolex, his first watch, pairing watches with his expeditions, and a whole lot more.
It’s an awesome discussion, and I hope you enjoy it.
