Excellent listen. Hearing the history of CD Peacock, and then hearing Steven share his struggles and failures, was very real. So often these days all everyone sees and/or flexes is how successful they are, so this was a welcome and needed change.
Impressive personality. Now we can discuss how people with an Instagram profile and a website that have been selling watches for a few years still believe they have achieved something and consider themselves experts. They have nothing on someone like this, whose achievements come from a time when things were actually hard and required effort and dedication. These are the individuals who deserve to be in the spotlight. Appreciate that one has to start somewhere, but such people should humble the current/ new generation massively.
Hey Tony finally got around to listening to this! Love the episode and really refreshing take on the retail experience. Very interesting that he dismissed the city of Chicago and seems to be putting all his eggs into oak brook.
Most likely I will never have the chance to visit the Chicago flagship store given I am located in Europe hence I was a little hesitant to spend my time with this episode yet I do not regret it. Not only echoing Tom‘s view about struggles and failures (as per above), but also the type of behind the scenes perspectives (eg building an own brand, working and living in Switzerland) of an industry veteran are worth listening to! I enjoyed most the discussion of the QC issues with Roger Dubuis back in the days, especially as I just read a WatchTime feature about the brand and its design language / attention to detail / etc. few days ago.

Would be interested to hear more about the dark arts of disposing of excess inventory but it’s NSFW as it were
