Tony, I love your posts - They are eagerly anticipated bi-weekly treats. However, this one unfortunately missed the mark for me. I’m sure Trevor is a solid guy but it all felt a bit pretentious. That said, I remain a big fan and loyal supporter. Even Joe D went hitless on occasion. Sorry for the shit sandwich, I would not have sent it if I didn’t care.
Tony, the Tudor Submariner hits the sweet spot for me. And yes, it does blue nicely, so there is that. However, gotta go Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner ref. 9401 or 7016. As in nature, every snowflake is a bit different.
Short, sweet and full of rabbit holes to dive down. I read The Cartiers and it was great, I'll likely check out the rest of your reading list. For anybody curious, The Cartiers is much more about interpersonal dynamics and the "making of" than it is about jewelry or watches. It's also an imposing tome (23 hours as an audiobook!) which has more in common with Great Expectations than it does with Longitude, with more coverage of Mrs. Plant's Pearls (worth looking up) than the Crash.
Speaking of dials, I would love to see a well-researched feature on the various and sundry watches produced for the assorted kingdoms and emirates over the years. Quill & Pad did a not-great, heavily-corrected overview a few years back but I haven't seen anything authoritative on the Longines and UGs bearing Iraqi flags or the assorted Pateks and Rolexes issued for Abdulaziz Ibn Saud.
Thanks Tony! Great read!! I met Trevor earlier this year in Dallas at a watch event. He’s a stand up guy! I’ve also become an avid listener to Pare’ Pare’. Genuinely appreciate the interview and his perspective. Hoping to get a chance to read Deluxe as well!
BTW - I would add the Ming book “The Quest For All Positions” by Jack Forester to your recommended reading list. It’s a great read disguised as a coffee table book.
Thanks for this. Great read! 14060 Subs are amazing, really special to own one (not that I do!). The MB pen sort of reminds me of the dial of an PP Aquanaut.
“before Rolex transitioned to those ceramic bezels and chunky “maxi” cases designed to impress from across a Wall Street trading desk”
that’s the type of hater-talk that made me sell all my 5-digit rolexes (i used to own a 14060m, 16600, 16570 and 16520). people still haven’t understood the true cost of hating on modern rolex. the cost is we fanboys stop buying the watches you claim are better, and they end up getting cheaper and cheaper. and any dealer who hates on modern rolex will never be able sell a watch to us.
when readers eventually notice that the watches you praise have only gotten cheaper with time, they’ll put no stock in your opinions.

Great read today. Speaking of double signed dials - still loving that Seiko/Sony!
thank you!

Nice, short and crisp post. I listen to Pare Pare whenever the conversation is more about watches, hope you guys do another podcast together.
yes, i get lost in the car chatter, no matter the source!
